Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the global quarantine products and medical-related markets such as bio have been growing rapidly. In particular, the 'medical clothing market', which is called the uniform of medical staff who directly meet patients, has high growth potential in the future.

However, while overseas, medical uniform brands have been standing out and dominating the market for a long time, Korea is still stuck at the level of uniforms or work clothes.

Medical uniforms are protective clothing that must act as a barrier to prevent the risk of infection or transfer of pathogens during face-to-face examinations with patients, surgeries, and procedures, and protect the lives of both medical staff and patients. In addition, since the recent outbreak of COVID-19, the needs for medical uniforms have diversified, from the inherent antibacterial function of medical uniforms to comfortable wear for long periods of time, while also maintaining the individuality of each individual and an aesthetic design that captures the image of the hospital.

Amidst these diverse needs, the functional medical clothing 'ATVLO' from technology startup SOFNT is receiving love calls from major domestic hospitals for its diverse functionality and sophisticated design.

In May, we were invited to the medical device exhibition hosted by the Korean Society of Plastic and Aesthetic Laser and the spring academic conference of the Korean Society of Nutritional Medicine in June, where we received favorable reviews through consultation reservations, development sales, etc. from domestic hospital groups, medical companies, and hospitals planning to open. In particular, ATVLO's diverse functionality and sensuous design attracted much interest and anticipation from medical professionals.

Patent for ‘Natural material composite antibacterial nanofiber manufacturing technology’

Electrospinning of composites of natural extracts and synthetic polymers

Doubles the antibacterial effect and has a low toxicity content suitable for medical use

Technology startup SOFNT Inc. (CEO Han Seol-ah) was established in April 2020, and is a new company that has just passed its first year. Despite its short history, the company is staffed with professors and masters/doctoral staff in the fields of textiles, medicine, fashion design, and clothing, including CEO Han Seol-ah, and current senior researchers at government-funded research institutes, whose combined experience is hundreds of times longer than the company's history. Above all, SOFNT's excellent R&D capabilities based on their respective research experiences in their respective fields are being commercialized as products.

'ATVLO' is a brand name for 'functional medical clothing' that has further enhanced antibacterial properties, moisture absorption, convenience, and comfort. In particular, the core of the functional medical clothing is the 'natural material composite antibacterial nanofiber manufacturing technology', which has already been patented domestically.

In the case of silver nano, which is considered a representative antibacterial material, there are experimental results showing that despite its high antibacterial properties, its toxicity content is harmful to the human body. On the other hand, natural product composite antibacterial nanofibers have antibacterial effects doubled by complex electrospinning of natural extracts with physiological activities such as antioxidant activity, immune enhancement, and antibacterial properties and synthetic polymers, and have the advantage of low toxicity content suitable for medical use.

In particular, in terms of antibacterial properties, a 72.4% antibacterial effect was proven in a test against Klebsiella Pneumonia. In addition, it has excellent functionality such as ▲soft touch ▲4-way stretch ▲stain resistance (contamination prevention) ▲absorbency ▲breathability ▲antistatic, etc., so it can be applied not only to medical products but also to daily necessities and hygiene products.

In addition, we have completed registration of original patents related to virus blocking in Korea, China, and the United States, and are continuously developing related technologies and securing intellectual property rights.

Get a feel for the new generation of medical professionals

A variety of fits and designs that reflect comfort and fashion trends

ATVLO is the result of reflecting the opinions of doctors, nurses, and other medical staff working in the field, such as the shortcomings and areas for improvement of existing medical uniforms. For example, it has various designs such as slim-fit pants and casual jogger pants that take into account the tastes of the new generation of doctors and nurses, and has several pockets attached so that various writing instruments, stethoscopes, pin lights, etc. can be carried and stored at all times. In addition, various medical uniforms and accessories such as hoods, under scrubs (surgical gowns or medical gowns) are developed and produced according to the needs of hospitals, which are the demanders.

The 'natural composite antibacterial nanofiber manufacturing technology' independently developed by SOFNT is currently being further perfected through collaboration with domestic material specialists. SOFNT is currently forming a strategic technology partnership with Kjun Company (CEO Kang Sung-moon), a leading domestic organic cotton specialist.

By combining SOFNT's natural composite antibacterial nanofiber manufacturing technology and Cajun Company's fabric manufacturing technology, we are developing various medical clothing fabric materials (ATVLO™) including cotton, polyester, spandex, bamboo, and organic cotton.

ATVLO's main products are scrubs, including everyday work clothes (tops and bottoms) and surgical gowns for medical staff such as doctors and nurses. In the future, in addition to scrubs, the company plans to develop and release various medical clothing accessories such as hoods.

In addition, we are supplying and selling ATVLO medical clothing products to the Korean Society of Laser Aesthetic Medicine (DEMIRE), which already has over 5,000 members, and 30 affiliated hospitals. In December, we plan to participate in the international academic conference and medical fair of the Korean Society of Laser Dermatology and Hair Loss (KALDAT), which has over 4,500 members, to promote our products.

CEO Han Seol-ah of SOFNT said, “The domestic medical market, which has been centered on medical devices, is taking on a new challenge with the item of medical clothing. In particular, although there still remains a perception that medical clothing is simply a uniform, there is now a growing awareness of various functions such as comfort, absorbency, breathability, and antibacterial effects, and demand from hospitals is increasing, so the domestic medical clothing market has high growth potential in the future.” She added, “SOFNT is actively reflecting the needs of medical professionals by utilizing the capabilities and R&D capabilities of experts in various fields, and is striving to advance into the overseas medical clothing market in the future as well as the domestic one by developing excellent medical clothing materials.”

SOFT is not simply selling medical uniforms, but is constantly upgrading product quality by exchanging information with various hospital groups and reflecting the needs of medical staff during the medical uniform material development and product planning stages. It is determined to supply products that consumers want, not those that are centered on producers.
